Mexican Pulp Horror — El Santo vs Las Mujeres Vampiro.

“El Santo vs The Vampire Women” — Gouache Illustration

This piece is a tribute to the golden era of Mexican pulp and lucha libre cinema, inspired by the iconic atmosphere of classic horror posters from the 1960s.

Painted traditionally in gouache, the illustration seeks to recreate the dramatic lighting, expressive brushwork, and handmade texture that defined the original Mexican pulp covers. El Santo, one of Mexico’s most legendary cultural icons, confronts the mysterious vampire women in a scene filled with tension, gothic horror, and cinematic nostalgia.

Through this artwork, I aim not only to celebrate these stories, but also to help preserve the legacy of handcrafted Mexican pulp art and the painters behind it — an important chapter of visual history that deserves to be remembered.
